A good spanking
said his mother proudly
and
a moment of glory
years later
not ecstatic
but euphoric
then
it was over
time for
the real work
to be undertaken
toyed with
or abandoned
depending on
who is left standing
when
the hyperbole flatlines
but
enough about him.
These people
come and go
speaking of those
they aspire to control.
I found
the dealer in antiquities
and his wife
with the tolerant smile
more
to my liking.
He said
what he meant
which
invited conversation
and
when the time came
then went
there had been
no attempt to
sell me anything.
