Caught up in
blazing a trail
through the woods
to the
wide open spaces
on
the other side
forgetting
the need for rest
comes with
the territory
I began
to fear
the trail
might not go
anywhere
at all
when
having gone
as far as
I could
the sight of
nothing but forest
ahead
left me
feeling spent
and demoralized
a poor finish
to what was
by any measure
a good day’s work.
