Listening
attentively
I hear words
spoken for
the sake of speaking
nothing more
snatches of music
false enthusiasm
ships passing
not much curiosity
everything crackling
beneath the surface
and one man
almost unnoticed
entrusting the secret
of his future
to
a handful of bystanders
not an innocent
among them
who
recognizing the occasion
accept his offer
with the utmost regard
for his destiny.
